Anyone who enjoys chocolate and salty snack loves those chocolate covered snacks, but they are so expensive to buy in your local stores, so why not create your own? It is a very simple process and fun as well. These make wonderful snacks for a special gathering, but also make wonderful seasonal gifts for the host or a hard to buy for person.

Go to your local grocery store and purchase two pounds of milk chocolate melts and a pound each of your favorite plain nuts, pretzels pieces and a pound of mini marshmallows. If you purchase the colorful chocolate melts you need to make sure they are all of the same colors, or else when it melts, you will have ugly food.

When you are ready to begin, pull the following things out of your cupboards, a double boiler, two cookie sheets and tin foil or parchment paper. You will also need a metal slotted spoon, one large bowl and a butter knife.

Place the water in the bottom of the double boiler and get it boiling on the stove. Open the packages of chocolate melts, so they are easy to pour into the double boiler when it is time. Open the packages of pretzel pieces, marshmallows, and nuts and dump them into your large bowl. Take a two cookie sheets; cover them with the tin foil or parchment paper and set aside.

When the water is boiling, add the top of the double boiler, and pour in the milk chocolate melts. The chocolate melts will melt quickly, will change to a shiny color as they melt, and let them remain in the double boiler until they melt.

Take your melted milk chocolate and pour it into the large bowl containing the nuts, pretzel pieces, and marshmallows. Use the slotted spoon to make sure the chocolate is covering all the food items within the bowl.

Gently pour the milk chocolate covered snacks on the prepared cookie sheets, spread and allow them to cool completely and the chocolate will return to the previous state leaving your snacks in a chocolate shell.

Once the chocolate has hardened use the butter knife to cut this into bars, which are easy to handle, for your family and friends. Store in a covered airtight container, for a few weeks if you can, as this is delicious and quickly devoured.

If you do not have a double boiler handy, then a regular sized saucepan with a similar sized stainless steel bowl will be about the same thing.

Any type of nuts, marshmallows, and pretzel pieces are fine here to use because they are wonderful covered in the milk chocolate.

You can also give these away as Christmas gifts,  to friends and family or slip a small bag into the children’s lunch.
