My writing

Published by amybrowne at 7:28 am under Positive Thinking Edit This

I recently got a professional critique on short story I had submitted for a contest.  The critique showed me just how much I have to learn in this writing gig. Truthfully, I did not realize my grammar was so bad, but it was very helpful. I love writing so this little road block is not stopping me instead it allowed me to see that if I hope to be successful I need to get grammar help.

I need serious grammar help. I use too many words to describe things, and I use the word that too much, and then and than are often confused. Then and than are easily mistaken, when I read them I know the difference but I type the wrong thing of course. I also tend to use too many passive phrases, which made my writing very weak. However, I was told that the story had a good plot, and if it had more action instead of descriptions, it might be sellable as a short story or a novel. Therefore, I am going back, editing that short story, and fixing it with all the grammar I am learning.

I have also slowed down on other types of articles I am writing and reading them aloud. I am discovering tiny mistakes as well as the big grammar issues. For the past year, my full time job was a freelance writer and it seems over the past few moths the more I wrote trying to bring cash into my home as a single parent the more I was receiving lower payments.

I was thinking I needed at least a part time job to help with what I made at writing but because I have so much to learn, I accepted a full time position when it was offered to me last week. The full time job will give me the cash I need and of course force me to slow down in writing so I can learn to write correctly. I hope that this will set me on the profitable path.
